Spring is in the air

We don't get much of a spring here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  It's one of the things I still miss about living downstate.  To me, March means trees blooming, birds singing, and finally being able to get back outside.  You'd think that after living in the U.P. for 11 years I'd be used to this all being delayed until May (no joke) but it's still hard.

And then, yesterday, it happened.  In the midst of all of this . . .

There!  Do you see it?  Bottom picture, a small dark spot . . .

GRASS!!!  I know it's not much, but it's enough to give me hope.  It was close to 40 degrees yesterday so while my son "dug for worms" in the snow, I attacked the thick ice still coating our walkway and driveway.  I'm that much closer to wearing flip-flops.  Though they may look a little silly with the snowpants . . .
